What do the characters within a Honda motorcycle VIN mean?

Answer

The VIN number on a motorcycle or automobile is like the DNA of the vehicle. For a Honda motorcycle the first two characters should be a JH for Japanese Honda, then either an A, 1, or 2 will be used to establish that it is a motorcycle. The 4th through 8th characters are used to identify the model or engine type. The 9th character is an identifier for that one machine, then follows the year it was manufactured.
