Michel de Nostredamem, Latinized as Nostradamus, was born in December, 1503. He was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide. In 1531, Nostradamus married, and his wife bore him two children. In 1534, his wife and children died from the plague. In 1547, Nostradamus married a rich widow named Anne Ponsarde, with whom he had six children; three daughters and three sons. By 1566, Nostradamus's gout, which had plagued him painfully for many years and made movement very difficult, turned into edema, or dropsy. On the morning of July 3, he was found dead, lying on the floor by his bed.
