Actress Sandy Duncan did not lose her eye. In 1972, Duncan underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor in her left eye. She lost her vision in that eye as a result of the surgery.
A veteran of theater, television and the silver screen, actress Sandy Duncan is perhaps best known for her starring role in the Broadway revival of "Peter Pan" and her role as Sandy Hogan on the hit 1980s sitcom, "The Hogan Family." As of 2014, Duncan, a Texas native, has been nominated for a total of two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and three Tony Awards.
