The Beatles were a rock band from Liverpool that was formed in 1960. It was one of the most successful bands in the history of popular music an d consisted of John Lennon on rhythm guitar and vocals, Paul McCartney on the bass guitar and vocals, George Harrison the lead guitar and on vocals and Ringo Starr on the drums and vocals. The band met when John Lennon formed the group The Quarrymen in March 1957 with some school friends then later Paul McCartney joined as a guitarist in July. Paul invited George Harrison who later joined them and the name changed to The Beatles as a suggestion from Lennon's schoolmate Stuart Sutcliffe.
