How did the Kardashians become famous?

The Kardashians became famous because of their reality show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." The reality series was offered to the family as a result of other factors that have also contributed to their fame.

Robert Kardashian Sr. became a household name in 1995 when he was the defense lawyer for O.J. Simpson during his murder trial. At the time of the trial, Robert Sr. was married to Kris, and the couple had four children together: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert Jr. They eventually divorced, and Kris married former Olympic track and field star, Bruce Jenner. Their individual and combined status added fame to the family’s name.

Kim Kardashian was seen in the spotlight quite frequently with her former best friend, Paris Hilton. However, Kim gained the most media attention for a leaked sex tape of her and former boyfriend, William "Ray J" Norwood. The popularity of the famous couple’s intimate tape raised Kim Kardashian’s social status.

The show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," has been on the air since October 2007 and has had several spin-off shows surrounding other members of the family, such as "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" and "Khloe and Lamar."

In past years, Kim and younger sister Khloe have both made the top five list of highest paid reality television stars. In 2012, it was reported that Kim made over $18 million in one year.
