# Gas Meters?

A gas meter registers the amount of consumption of gas that a customer uses. Gas meters are usually read every month and the gas supplier must inspect and test the meter at least once every two years. The meter detects the amount of flow of fuel gases that are used, such as natural gas and propane. There are three different meters one can use: diaphragm, rotary and turbine meters. Each meter has devices called odometers that use clock hands to determine the amount of gas consumption.
A gas meter consists of shaped lobes and the rotors that normally spin accurately and thus produce a specific amount of gas through the meter. There are three different types of gas meters that work differently from each other, they include; rotary, diaphragm and turbine meters.
A gas meter is used to measure the volume of fuel gases and there are different types of these meters like the bellows meters, Rotary meters and Turbine meters. The bellows meter has two or more chambers formed by movable diaphragms. With the gas flow directed by internal valves, the chambers alternately fill and expel gas. As the diaphragms expand and contract, levers convert the linear motion of the diaphragms into rotary motion of a crank shaft. This shaft can drive an odometer-like counter mechanism or it can produce electrical pulses for a flow computer.
In a diaphragm meter, there are moving diaphragms that act as gauge for the gas that is used. When gas is in use, diaphragms expand and contract depending on the amount of gas being used. The diaphragms are connected to bars that move which are used to determine the consumption of the entire household. The rate of gas used is normally read once a month.
