To become a merchant seaman, one will need to get the required forms which include drug test and medical forms. The person will have to have a drug screening done, complete the small vessel sea service form and apply for a worker identification card. Aspiring merchant seamen also need to get the Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) certification.
