To make black powder, separate the ingredients and note the recipe for black powder is 75 percent potassium nitrate, 15 percent charcoal and 10 percent sulphur. This is normally measured by weight that is 75 parts to 15 parts to 10 parts. Finely grind the ingredients and for safety grind all of them separately and then clean out the mortar and pestle thoroughly between crushing. Mix all of the ingredients using a small amount of distilled water until the substance is in the consistency of cookie dough. Place small amounts of that mixture in a fine sieve and slowly pour small amounts of alcohol through them. Do not perform it near sparks or flames as it is dangerous so this step can be skipped, but the final black powder will be of poor quality. Hand-form the mixture into small, rectangular shapes- corning and let the shapes dry thoroughly.
