How to Tune a Violin?

To tune a violin you should know the four strings of the violin are tuned in perfect fifths whereby you can use either a digital tuner, pitch pipe or a piano. The tuning is normally checked by the pitch if it has changed to a higher and smoother pitch which can be checked by playing the G string, D string, A string and E string.

A violin is a stringed instrument just like a guitar, that produces sound through vibration of the strings. Use the tuning pegs that are at the top of the violin so that you get the correct tone. Use fine tuners on the tall piece, for fine tuning. If replacing the strings, tune each string at a time until you tune all of them. Ensure the tension of the string is not varying so that the bridge is kept intact. The bridge should always be perpendicular to the violin and not angled. Accurately tune the bottom E string and place the first finger of your left hand behind the fifth fret on the bottom E string, that is an A note and tune it. Place the first finger of your left hand behind the fifth fret on the A string to get a D note then tune it to that. To get a G note place the first finger of your left hand behind the fifth fret on the D string. Then place the first finger of your left hand behind the forth fret to get a B note then tune it. Finally place the first finger of your left hand behind the fifth fret on the B string to get an E note.

An 'A' tuning fork, digital tuner, pitch pipe or a piano may be used to tune the violine. The violin is tuned to the following pitches: G string, D string, A string, and E string.
