The Pacific Railroad act commissioned the Central Pacific railroad and the Union Pacific railroad to build the Transcontinental railroad. The Transcontinental railroad connected the eastern and western parts of the United States. The project started in 1862 and it took 7 years to build the Transcontinental railroad.
