What is the gestation period for a cat?

Answer

The gestation period for a healthy domestic cat is usually between 57 and 69 days. Some veterinarians believe that day 65 of pregnancy is the ideal time for a cat to give birth.

Typically, a cat will give birth to between two and eight kittens, though a number slightly outside of that range is not abnormal. Vets recommend to begin feeding a pregnant cat kitten food several weeks before she is expected to give birth to prepare her for nursing. Kitten food is high in nutrients and should continue to be the mother's main source of food until her litter is done nursing.
