How long do pit bulls live?

An American Pit Bull Terrier can live anywhere from eight to 15 years. This is about the same as the average lifespan of American and European dogs, about 12.8 years.

Providing the best possible care for a pit bull is important and directly impacts its lifespan. Pit bulls are a member of the Molosser breed group. Twelve countries in Europe, as well as Australia, Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore and Venezuela have enacted some form of breed-specific legislation on pit bulls, ranging from outright bans to restrictions and conditions on ownership. The breed is banned in the United Kingdom.
