How long do Shelties live?

On average, Shelties live between 12 and 14 years. The name "Sheltie" is often used to describe a Shetland Sheepdog. These dogs are rather small in size and range from 12 to 16 inches tall at the shoulders.

Shetland Sheepdogs have a playful yet gentle personality and love to spend time around humans. Shelties may be more reserved toward strangers than their owners, and they may be timid around children. Shelties are related to collies and border collies but are a mix of different breeds. The Sheltie is originally from Scotland, and most of these dogs have long hair that must be maintained.
