Kool Aid has been around since about 1927. It was invented by a husband and wife named Edwin and Kitty Perkins in Nebraska. The original name of Kool Aid was Fruit Smack and it was a liquid. Kool-Aid was developed in Hastings, Nebraska. Edwin Perkins came up with the mixture at first in liquid form but had trouble with the packages breaking. He then developed it into a powder and Kool-Aid was born. It started out in 1927 being sold to wholesale grocery and candy markets for .10 cents a package.
