How many "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies are there?

As of 2014, there are four "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies: "The Curse of the Black Pearl" (2003), "Dead Man's Chest" (2006), "At World's End" (2007) and "On Stranger Tides" (2011). Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has announced plans for a fifth movie, "Dead Men Tell No Tales," to come out in 2016.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies are inspired by a ride that first opened at Disneyland in 1967 and later opened at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. The movies illustrate the adventures of the picaresque pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp. While he was not originally featured on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" rides, Disney has added audio-animatronic figures representing Sparrow within the attractions and rerecorded the other figures' dialog to reference him, tying the ride back in with the movie.
