Although prices vary among jewelers, a quality 2-carat diamond typically costs between $10,000 and $15,000. Two-carat diamonds are also found in the $5,000 to $10,000 range, but these have noticeable flaws.
Flaws in diamonds do not necessarily make them unattractive, but they are clearly different from the highest quality stones. These disparities show up in several ways. "Inclusions" are blemishes inside the diamond or on its surface. They exist in all diamonds but are visible to the eye in less expensive ones. Lower-priced diamonds are often slightly off-color with a yellowish cast. In addition, a diamond should be cut in a way that accentuates its brilliance. Diamonds at lower price points are not cut as well, so they sparkle less.
