The recommended dietary reference intake for vitamin C is 65 milligrams each day. Exceeding the daily limit can result in side effects including kidney stones, insomnia, headache, cramps, bloating, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Vitamin C is a vitamin that should be taken daily, though the amounts and frequency can fluctuate based on a person’s overall health. For example, if a person is ill, they can increase their dosage as well as their frequency in taking the vitamin.

Vitamin C is recommended to take at any time of day, though some advocate breakfast time is the best time in order to give a person an energy boost for the morning.

The Mayo Clinic recommends no less than 65 milligrams and no more than 200 milligrams daily of vitamin C. Vitamin requirements should be achieve through diet, rather than supplements.
