# How to Calculate Centuries?

Centuries are fairly easy to calculate. Defined, a century is one hundred years. The first century of our common era began year 1 CE, and ended at year 100 CE. In essence, the first century is the first entire one hundred years AFTER the first minute of the century. The second century began in 101 CE and contains the next one hundred years after that. In a more recent note, our twenty first century began in 2001 and will last until 2100.
