I learned from my mom the easiest way to make fabric dye by using unsweetened Kool-aide or food coloring. Add 2 cups of water and 1/4 cup of white vinegar to one package of Kool-aide or one spoon of food coloring. Put the mixture in a glass jar or plastic container and set in the sun for a few hours.

If you mix water, a little salt or vinegar an some fruit, like berries or a dark flower and boil it all together, it will make a dye. You need to strain it to get the flower or berries out but then you can soak your clothing in the mixture to dye it.
