The object of "Clue Jr.: The Case of the Missing Cake" is to navigate through clues to identify who ate the cake, when the cake was eaten and what beverage was consumed with the cake. The game is recommended for two to six players ages 5 to 8, and it consists of the game board, character and furniture pawns, a spinner, player bases, mystery cards and a detective's notepad.
Players begin by choosing a mover or player base and placing it onto the matching color on the game board. The first player spins the spinner and moves forward the number of spaces displayed on the spinner. If players land on a space already occupied, the space is skipped or players can choose to wait to peer into the room on the game board. When landing on a space adjoining a room, players can unlock the keyhole and discover the clues in the room. Using the detective notepad, players should write down clues and guesses while moving around the game board. Once a player is ready to guess who ate the cake, where it was eaten and what beverage was consumed, that player has to announce the guess and gets a chance to view the mystery card to see if the guess is correct. If the guess is correct, the player wins the game. If not, the player must put the card back, and the game resumes with the other players.
