How to Wind a Trimmer Line?

Answer

Winding your own trimmer line helps to save money. First, you have to make sure you have the right size line for the spool you are using. A good rule of thumb is to use .080 diameter for gas trimmers and .065 diameter or smaller for electric trimmers. To thread the spool, find the small hole in the center and thread about 1/2 inch of line through it. Then, wind the line onto the spool in a clockwise direction, making sure not to overlap the line until you have completed one layer (overlapping too soon may cause tangles in the line). Stop winding about a 1/4 inch from the top ridge of the spool. Replace the spool on the trimmer and you are all set!

To wind a trimmer line, first remove the spool. Wind new line onto the old spool by hand. You can also replace with pre-wound spools. Insert the end of the line into the hole in the spool and wind according to the arrow direction. You can find more information here: www.bobvila.com
