Writing a commentary essay is an important way to respond to another piece of work. The first thing you want to do is consider your audience and their needs. Make sure that you are writing in the required MLA or APA format before you begin to prevent massive edits down the road. Map out the structure of your essay before you jump into the actual work. As with any formal essay, you will need an introduction, three main points and a conclusion. Your three main points need to discuss the original work, your view point on the subject and the facts that support your view point.
