How Was the Apartheid System Develop?

The apartheid system in South Africa was a system of legal racial segregation that was enforced by the National Party governments of South Africa. It developed after the primarily Afrikaner Nationalists came to power in 1948 where the social custom of apartheid was systematized under law. In this system the rights of the majority 'non-white' residents of South Africa were curtailed and white supremacy and minority rule by Afrikaners was maintained. This system sparked significant internal resistance and violence as well as a long trade embargo against South Africa.
