Is there a toll-free number to call Santa Claus?

Answer

A toll-free number for Santa Claus is 1-877-HI-NORAD. An alternative number is 1-800-726-8222.

Both of these toll-free Santa lines came into being accidentally. In 1955, Sears Roebuck and Co. in Colorado Springs inadvertently advertised a wrong number as its direct phone line to Santa. The wrong number belonged to Continental Air Defense Command, now known as NORAD. Employees were instructed to answer the calls and respond as Santa. This gave birth to the NORAD Santa Tracker that eventually allowed children to call and email Santa as well as track the progress of his sleigh on Christmas Eve online.

The Accidental Santa number, 1-800-726-8222, is one digit away from 1-800-SANTACLAUS. The man who had been assigned this number in 2006 received so many calls from children who had misdialed, he took on the role of Santa and personally spoke to each caller. He eventually found volunteers to assist him.
