A 1946 nickel may not be worth anything, especially since it's only from the nineteenth century. However if you feel it is, or if it is an unusual coin then you should take it to a coin dealer.

Unless it is uncirculated (looks like it was just made yesterday) or nearly uncirculated, it is only worth 5 cents. In uncirculated grade, maybe about a $1. Age doesn't always equal
