The late Jessica Savitch was born in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania on February 1, 1947. Her actions that were termed a meltdown occured in 1983 while she was anchoring the NBC News Digest. She was stumbling over words and slurring her words and rumors of drug use were rumored. She died three weeks later in a car crash. Savitch was in the back seat of a car being driven by Martin Fischbein when it went into a canal. It landed upside down and Fischbein and Savitch were trapped inside. Both died from asphyxiation by drowning. Neither drugs or alcohol were found to have any part in the accident.
