The longest game in baseball took place on April 18/19, 1981 and June 23, 1981. The game lasted 33 innings and was between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings.

The longest game in major league history was 26 innings, between Brooklyn and Boston back in 1920. The longest game by time was an 8 hour, 6 minute marathon between Chicago and Milwaukee on May 5, 1984.
The longest professional game was not in the major leagues, however: Pawtucket and Rochester played an 8 hour, 25 minute, 33 inning whopper! After all that, Pawtucket wound up winning only 3-2.
