Merton's Typology of Prejudice and Discrimination?

Answer

Robert Merton was a sociologist. He studied prejudice and discrimination and developed a typology that said prejudice and discrimination don't always go with the other. He developed four types of classifications for prejudice and discrimination. Type 1 is the unprejudiced nondiscriminator, type 2 is someone who is not prejudiced but discriminate anyway, type 3 are timid bigots and who are prejudiced but do not discriminate, and the last, type 4, is the prejudiced discriminator. Since prejudice doesn't always go with discrimination, it is said that prejudice may not be a part of discrimination.
