The name of this tribe, as well as the name of the city, comes from the Indian word myaamia, which means allies. Traditional clothing for women included skirts over leggings, while men wore breechcloths and shirts, although they did not wear pants. Beaded headbands with feathers were worn instead of headdresses. Leather moccasins on the feet were worn by both men and women.
