There are three types of muscles used during running that is primary, supporting and auxiliary. Under primary we have the quadriceps femoris, hamstring, gluteus maximus, iliopsoas and the calf muscle. The supporting ones are the biceps brachii, upper abdominals and the lower abdominals. The auxiliary muscles are the external intercostal and the internal intercostal.
