On the Richter Scale What is Gale Force?

Answer

Gale force refers to an empirical measure for interpreting wind speed and is commonly known as the Beaufort wind force scale. The gale force cannot be used as an alternative to the ritcher scale or vice versa as the ritcher scale is only used to measure the magnitude of an earth quake.
1 Additional Answer
The Richter scale is a logarithmic scale used to measure the magnitude of earthquakes. Gale force refers to winds at speeds above 37 knots on the Beaufort scale. The two are thus not related.
