Progressivism philosophy is one of three philosophies of education that also include essentialism and perennialism. Progressivism philosophies believe that education should focus on the whole child as opposed to the content or the teacher. This philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Progressive philosophy was first established in America in the mid 1920s through the mid 1950s. It is believed that with progressivism philosophy, curriculum content should be derived from student interest and questions.
