What are the themes in Robert Browning's poems?

Answer

Robert Browning received little formal education. His learning was gleaned mainly from his Father's library at home in Camberwell, South London, where he learnt something, with his Father's help, of Latin and Greek and also read Shelly, Byron and Keats. Much of Browning's work contemplates death, and the way that it frames our life choices. Many poems consider the impending nature of death as a melancholy context to balance the joy of life.
