What is a sand clock?


A sand clock is also known as an hour glass. It is used to measure time. Sand travels from one chamber of the clock through a narrow tube to another chamber. Hour glasses and other designs of sand clocks normally take an hour for the sand to trickle down from the top chamber to the bottom chamber. Some hour glasses are made using mercury and it works in the same way. The casing of the hour glass can be designed decoratively and some are even hand made.
