Snopes com was once known as Urban Legends. The website was created by Barbara and David Mikkelson in 1995 and they also own it. The California couple addresses Internet rumors, e-mails, and stories and pictures that make the rounds but their authenticity is questionable. The site gets approximately 300,000 hits a day. The couple has been accused of being partial to conservatives, by liberals, when it comes to political issues. However, responses were reviewed by an outside group and the accusations were false.
