The 't' in tcsh comes from the 'T' in TENEX, an operating system which inspired Ken Greer at Carnegie Mellon University and csh is the improved version of tcsh on most machines therefore tcsh stands for Telex C Shell.

try running it like this. ./cs216program1. Thats period space period slash file-name. Basically the unix version of a run command. Or you could make it executable with the change
try adding this into the .cshrc file: alias ls = 'ls --color' That should do it.
