Who owns Marlin Firearms?

Marlin Firearms is owned by the Remington Arms Company, Inc., which acquired Marlin in January 2008. Remington, in turn, is owned by Freedom Group, a holding company that has acquired a number of prestigious brands and, according to Businessweek.com, is the largest American firearm and ammunition manufacturer.

Marlin Firearms was founded in Connecticut in 1870 by John Marlin. Having served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker, he gained first-hand experience of firearms manufacturing while working at the Colt factory during the Civil War. Marlin Models 1891 and 1893, known today as Model 39 and Model 336, are the two oldest shoulder arm designs in the world that remain in production.
