Guns N' Roses' debut album, "Appetite for Destruction," has sold in excess of 28 million copies worldwide, including 18 million copies in the United States. It holds the title for the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S. The success of "Sweet Child O' Mine" helped "Appetite for Destruction" reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2012, Guns N' Roses band members Steven Adler, Duff McKagan, Dizzy Reed, Axl Rose, Slash, Matt Sorum and Izzy Stradlin were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the first year of their eligibility.

The group coined its name by combining the names of the bands Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns. Singer Axl Rose and rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin were originally members of Hollywood Rose; lead guitarist Tracii Guns, bassist Ole Beich and drummer Rob Gardner were members of L.A. Guns.
