The disadvantages of coal include emission of harmful waste such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, arsenic. These gases cause many respiratory health complications. Coal is very heavy and therefore its transportation is cumbersome.

The main disadvantage of using coal is the production of green house gases during its burning. Coal also produces sulphur dioxide gas, and this leads to acid rain formation not forgetting the risks that are involved with its mining. In Canada, it is the largest fossil-fuel resource while in China and India it is picking up very fast.
