The Caribbean, long referred to as the West Indies, comprises of more than 7,000 islands. There are 13 independent island countries and some are dependencies or overseas territory of some other nations. The large number of islands includes islets, cays and a few inhabited reefs.
The islands of the Caribbean are divided into three main groupsthe Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, and the Lesser Antilles. Bahamas is an archipelago of 700 islands while the Islands of the Greater Antilles are Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Hispaola. The Lesser Antilles are comprised of Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Dominica.
The Caribbean consists of more than 7,000 islands some of which are still being discovered. Some of the most popular ones include; Anguilla islands which is one of the smallest but is very spectacular, Antigua and Barbuda islands, Aruba, the Bahamas which tops the Caribbean list, Barbados, the Belize islands and the list is endless.
The Caribbean islands are located south east of the gulf of north America and Mexico ,north of south America and east of central America. The Caribbean Islands are over a thousand but the most popular are Bonaire,Aruba,the Bahamas,Grenada,Jamaica just to list a few.
