Mushrooms can be categorized into the following: Saprotrophic mushrooms, which are decomposers and which thrive on decaying matter, Mycorrhizal mushrooms such as Chanterelles and Porcini that thrive in harmony with plants, and parasitic mushrooms such as caterpillar fungus and honey fungus. Others are known as endophytic mushrooms, which invade a plant's host tissue.
