What caused the death of Andre the Giant?

Andre the Giant suffered a heart attack and died on January 27, 1993, in Paris, France. He was visiting his home due to the death of his father at the time and was found in his hotel room.

Born on May 19, 1946, in Grenoble, France, Andre's birth name was Andre Rene Roussimoff. He suffered from a disease called giantism (acromegaly) that results in an overabundance of growth hormones. As a fully grown man, Andre stood almost 7 feet tall and weighed 500 pounds, making him perfect for the pro-wrestling entertainment circuit. As he aged, the disease and excess weight took their toll, resulting in spinal surgery, knee issues and his eventual death from congestive heart failure.
