A swollen liver can be caused by a number of things including cirrhosis. Cirrhosis of the liver is the misuse of alcohol that forces the liver to overwork so as to remove the alcohol from your body system. Another cause of swollen liver is infection such as hepatitis. This infection is conveyed through direct contact with bodily fluids such as the transmission of blood.
