What Colour Is Iodine?

Answer

The colour of iodine solutions depends on the nature of the solvent; however, it is naturally reddish brown in colour. Iodine produces a deep blue colour when it forms a complex mixture with a starch solution. Thus, a starch solution is used as an indicator for free elemental iodine in solution during titrations. Iodine’s vapour is violet when it sublimates.
