The original plan by Sir Francis Drake was to voyage to the Pacific Coast of North America. The voyage ended up being a three year circumnavigation of the globe taking place from 1577 to 1580. He had 5 ships manned by 164 seamen when he left Plymouth, but only returned with one ship.
