What did Dmitri Mendeleev accomplish?

Answer

Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev was a Russian chemist, who was responsible for organizing the foundation of the periodic system of the elements still in use today. Mendeleev arranged the 63 elements that were known in his day according to atomic weight, leaving spaces in his periodic table for predicted elements. Eventually, these predictions were confirmed by discovery and Mendeleev's table was validated.

In the mid-1800s, Dmitri Mendeleev was one of several chemists working on an establishment of periodic law. According to Le Moyne College, Mendeleev had the clearest and most systematic formulation of periodic law, and his testable predictions (and the fact that some of these predictions were confirmed) raised his accomplishments above his contemporaries'.

Though Mendeleev's periodic table was successful, it did have some errors. Mendeleev was able to correct some of these errors himself, and other corrections occurred well after his death in 1907. Mendeleev's accomplishments and enduring fame and importance are all the more impressive when one considers his biography. The youngest of more than 10 children born, Mendeleev's father died when he was young, and he was eventually able to go to college thanks to his mother's determination. He became a chemistry professor, and it was during the early years of his career that he decided to attempt to bring order to the field of inorganic chemistry.
