Dragons were flying animals with a thick, long body covered by a scaly skin. They also had a pair of bat like wings, wedge shaped head and long powerful necks. Dragons were portrayed as shape changers and fire breathers whenever there was danger.
Typically, in Western culture, dragons are depicted as extremely large reptiles or lizards. Usually, they are shown with wings and powerful legs ending in talons or claws. Their bodies are often long and serpentine.
