What do screech-owls eat?


Screech-owls are carnivores and feed on multiple types of prey, including moths, katydids, crayfish and small mammals like bats, small birds and mice. Its wide prey base makes it this owl with the most varied food source in North America.

These owls hunt mostly with their vision, though they do have amazing hearing and are able to find prey hidden in the leaf litter. In the wild, they hunt by waiting in trees watching and listening for movement that signals prey.
