Stag beetle larvae eat rotting wood and grow into adult stag beetles once they've finished three different larval stages. Adult stag beetles eat tree sap or any type of decaying fruit.

Stag beetles do not eat but rather drink up their food, especially juicy fruits and the sap of trees. These animals develop fat reserves in their larvae stage that keeps them going, thus they do not need to eat to survive.
Stag beetles have large claws or pinchers on the front of their bodies which would lead you to believe that they eat some pretty large insects. Surprisingly, stag beetles can't eat solid foods.
