What does "description" mean?

Answer

A "description" is a sentence or passage that represents, or describes, a person, object or thing. It can also be a drawing or image used in place of, or alongside, verbal representation.

A description usually contains the information most typical to the object. A banana, for example, would be described as a yellow fruit that needs to be peeled before eating. The type of description depends on the reason why it is being given. Some descriptions are used in place of images, such as in books. The purpose of an object or job may need a description in certain places if it is not immediately apparent to the reader.
